Peace On Earth

December 24th 2006 17:23
NEWS:
The United Nations Security Council unanimously voted Saturday to impose nuclear trade sanctions with Iran with the intent of curtailing that country’s nuclear program, which vote ended two months of haggling amongst council members which highlight divisions rather than unity.

Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, quick to react, has rejected the Council’s vote by calling it nothing more than a “piece of paper” and is further quoted

They seek to mobilize a group of their agents on the pretext of this piece of paper in order to show Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seeds of discord among the Iranian nation. No matter [if] they accept it or not, Iran is now an established nuclear state and it is in their interest to live alongside the Iranian nation."

"VIEWS:
Boy, that’s cold and chilling news on this Christmas Eve during this season of supposed happiness and good will to men. Iran “an established nuclear state.:

NEWS:
The drought in Australia has lasted for more than five years. Rainfall has been at low or near record lows in many eastern and southern regions in addition to the temperatures being exceptionally warm.

The conditions have ignited an emotional debate about global warming. Conservationists insist the drought, also known as the “Big dry” is the result of drastic climate change and that Australia is on the brink of “environmental disaster.”

Professor Andy Pitman from Macquarie University in Sydney states: “The worry for some is that this could be the start of a protracted period of low rainfall that could go on for decades. The politicians truly believe this is a 5-year or 6-year drought that will break sometime in 2007 or 2008. But it might not break until 2050, and we aren't thinking in those terms at this stage,"

Cate Faehrmann from the Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales further states: We're in a state of emergency, We need to treat this as a war-like scenario. The people are really worried that we are going to run out of water. I can imagine Australia being a desert in a few decades' time in some of these agricultural areas. The soil is blowing away, the rivers are drying up. I think there will be plots of land abandoned and perhaps whole agricultural practices abandoned."

VIEWS:
This is really serious. The politicians’ belief that this is a 5 or 6-year condition seems more like wishful thinking to me. Instead of sitting tight with this hopeful mindset, maybe they should get off their duffs and do something about the real problem - global warming, which, in this writer’s mind, is the real problem - no question the temps have gradually risen to a dangerous level and need to be dealt with now, not tomorrow or next year, but now.

From Theresa:

All of this global warming argument is so difficult to understand. So much bias in the presentation of views. But I did see a 60 Minutes report where US scientists were upset because the current political administration had re-written several of their conclusions. Thus, re-writing the science. By non-scientists.

So...............

NEWS:
The Observer, a British newspaper, citing French and U.S. security sources, reports that Islamic militants want to attack the Channel Tunnel (“Chunnel”) between England and France during the holiday season.
VIEWS:
No Christmas spirit here - is the world truly going to h___ in a handbag?

NEWS:
Ten students from “elite” universities posted their views on an Internet website condemning Christmas trees, seasonal messages in the media and people celebrating "until very late" on Christmas Eve saying the government was to blame for failing to maintain traditions.
VIEWS:
Bah humbug to them, and I wouldn’t expect that any of them will be receiving a visit from you know who on Christmas Eve - no presents for them, that’s for sure.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT. THANKS FOR READING, Bob

From Theresa:
May your family and community be blessed today, tomorrow, and in the years to come.
Merry Christmas.
