From Bob:
NEWS:
Dick Flahavan, US Selective Service System spokesman (the bureaucracy which handles the military draft for the US government) stated that the Selective Service says it plans to conduct “a comprehensive test of its procedures” which is “routine” and not a sign that a military draft is imminent.
This as the Bush military machine is considering a larger military force for Iran, Afghanistan and other spots (See earlier story).
VIEWS:
Right, no further action being considered. And I have the Golden Gate Bridge for sale, cheap.
NEWS:
Alexander Downer, Australia's foreign affairs minister warned Australian citizens against travel to Jakarta, Bali and Batam over the Christmas and New Years holiday after reports of planned terrorist attacks surfaced regarding those locations. A “Range of targets” was mentioned including tourist attractions and wherever there are “large gatherings of people.”
VIEWS:
Well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you Mr. And Mrs. Terrorist there and all over the world. Why don’t you put as much effort into changing the world situations through peaceful means. Never heard that saying “you can gather more bees with honey than with vinegar.
From Theresa:
I saw an interesting lecture, with questions afterward, featuring Karen Armstrong, the religious writer/historian last week. I like her work so much, though I always have to read up on what she has said, afterward. She just knows so much.
She was talking about Islam, talking about how these terrorists have hijacked, or are trying to hijack, the Islamic religion the way they did the planes on 9-11.
How they take quotes, out of context from the faith, to support their need to murder.
Ms. Armstrong is a former Catholic nun, so for her, learning about Islam in her religious studies and for her books has been a really eye-opening education.
I guess I'll have to keep learning to.
I know there was that news yeras ago about even the Saudi's, US allies, teaching their kids in school all sorts of hateful things about the western world.
But, isn't that politics - govenment- educating their citizens to think a certain way, rather than true religious education?

NEWS:
The space shuttle Discovery brought its seven-members safely back to earth after a 13 day mission rewiring the International Space Station early Friday afternoon when it safely set down at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
VIEWS:
Welcome back after what is reported as a successful mission. Hail to the crew.
NEWS:
Japanese Prime minister Shinto Abe reaffirmed support regarding UN sanctions against North Korea post October nuclear tests. He warned of increasing international pressure after talks on that maverick state’s nuclear program ended without result.
VIEWS:
Brrr; there’s a chilling subject - North Korea, Iran and other terrorist states having nuclear capability.
NEWS:
Speaking of US states losing populations (see earlier story re California) another result of Hurricane Katrina is that Louisiana lost close to 220,000 residents post hurricane. This may be enough to cost Louisiana a seat in Congress in the near future.
VIEWS:
No good news came out of Hurricane Katrina except that maybe it got Bush busy and cut his much not-needed vacation at his Texas ranch short.
From Theresa:
I remember Michael Chernoff, head of The Department of Homeland Security (I still think that is a weird name with somehow ominous overtones), saying that his agency had seen the media reports, but knew that the media had a tendency to blow things out of proportion, for the sake of drama.
I remember thinking, well get on a plane, nitwit, and go down there and see for yourself. It looks to me like our people are dying and you are doing nothing but making excuses and letting it happen.
NEWS:
Writing in the journal Science, researchers say that fossils found in Spain belong to, most likely, Europe’s biggest dinosaur ever. Turiasaurus would have been 30 to 37 meters long, and would have weighed between 40 and 48 tons.
VIEWS:
It’s too bad my apartment doesn’t allow pets.
From Theresa:
Darlin', exactly how would you afford feeding that thing?
And, what about cleaning up the yard??
From Bob:
NEWS:
There are presently nearly 2.7 b (that’s with a ‘B’) illion mobile (cell) phones now in use globally. Predictions are that by the end of 2007 there will be more than THREE BILLION of these critters around. Believe it or not, that equals almost one-half the entire world’s population.
VIEWS:
And most of them are in the hands of that loud person sitting next to you on the bus who likes to share his/her conversation with all of us. We all know that there just cannot be that much to talk about. How did we get on without them just 10 years ago; it’s a mystery.
THANKS FOR READING AND SEE YOU NEXT TIME
