From Bob:
Today’s news and views:
News: Cold or flu – seems the only difference is
intensity: if its real bad, it’s probably the flu; less intense, probably a cold.
If it’s a cold, there doesn’t seem to be anything you can do about it; if it’s the flu, seem’s there’s only temporary relief of symptoms through Amantadine or rimantadine within
24-48 hours after onset of symptoms.
Views: Good luck and good health
News: Coup in Fiji and more expected in the Pacific
Rim
Views: Already West Papua, Timor, Tonga and the
Solomons have faced disaster. The view is that hoards of “boat people” will be pouring ashore on the northern coastline of the Australian Continent.
News: (Older news) A dozen business executives -
11 from the disgraced AWB - may be facing criminal charges following the Cole inquiry into $290 million in bribes paid by the wheat exporter to Saddam Hussein's regime.
(Newer) News: AWB will be stripped of its veto over wheat exports with the power to be temporarily transferred to Agriculture Minister Peter McGauran.
Views: Well, we certainly hope so, and isn’t it about
time. Do well, Peter.
News: Kevin Rudd, the new Federal Opposition
Leader in his first speech to Parliament said, and we paraphrase, that the vision of the Federal Opposition is that Australia is at its best when it and its people are committed to building a prosperous nation while at the same time maintaining a vision for a fair Australia and a fair society.
Views: Mr. Rudd puts into words what every citizen of
the world, not just Australia, feels: A fair land, a fair government and a fair society in which to live.
News: Queensland’s two major organ transplant hospitals have banned training Chinese surgeons because of concerns raised by the Falun Gong group. The Falun Gong spiritual movement has about 100 million members worldwide and has accused the Chinese Government of harvesting organs from thousands of members executed over the past seven years.
Views: This is macabre, to think of a world power government to be doing such a thing. We hope it’s not so, but watch out, the movie’s coming out next month.
News: US President Bush met Abdul Aziz Hakim, the
Shiite leader of the largest bloc in Iraq's parliament to discuss the situation in Iraq. Bush told Hakim that the United States was not satisfied with the progress of efforts to stop the sharp escalation of violence in Iraq.
Views: Well, what else is new, and is anybody happy
with anything going on in Iraq - I would bet that if a poll was taken of anybody who has, at the very least, a small bit of information regarding the situation in Iraq, that nobody is “satisfied” or pleased in any shape, manner or form. Welcome to real life, President Bush.
News: NASA (The United States’ “National
Aeronautical and Space Agency”) Monday announced plans for a permanent base on the Moon, to be started soon after astronauts return there around 2020.
Views: I can think of a lot of people that should be
nominated for a ride - see previous story.
Thanks for reading, and we’ll be back again.
