Officials say several houses have been destroyed by bushfires along Tasmania's eastern coast, and as many as 23 structures may have been lost in the holiday coastal township of Scamander. At least 13 fires are raging across Victoria even as this is being written.
Fires started by lightning ave ignited the roofs of at least three Sydney homes, with one now threatening Cranebrook; remember, this is only a summary of the news - fires all over the place.

Retired Adelaide high school teacher Frederick Toben in denying that the Holocaust took place has dismissed as "mere puffery" historical evidence proving mass killings of Jews by the Nazis during a speech in Tehran, Iran last night.
Dr. Tobin, who set up the Adelaide Institute in 1994 to pursue his cause, called "claims made by “Holocaust believers" about the mass gassings and burnings a "physical impossibility". As an aside he spent seven months in a German prison in 1999 for inciting racism.
Other speakers include David Duke, a former imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan , and French professor Robert Faurisson, who also denies the existence of Nazi gas chambers.

Considering the company he keeps, is it any wonder that Dr. Tobin even considers such a possibility as the non-existence of the Holocaust. This writer has no doubts whatsoever as to its occurring and it being one of the, if not the, best example of man’s inhumanity to man.

The CBS program 60 Minutes, which aired in the US on dec. 17, 2006, had a news story on detiled Nazi archives recently opened up to the public, finally. Apparently, Nazi employees kept voluminous records of their "work" in order to prove they were earning their pay.
The details of death are horrifying.
I'm not clear on an issue. Can someone explain this to me. The Holocaust happened. American GI's went into the death camps and liberated those human beings who had not yet been murdered.
People who deny this fact are liars and anti-semites. why are newspapers presenting these stories in a "fair and balanced" manner. Would they present a lynching in the same way?
As an older woman I have a very specific view, and theory, about the men who perpetuate these disgusting lies, and what these men probably lack in physical endowment.
Some folks may want to stop reading at this point. Heaven knows, my family isn't going to like me saying this publicly.
But here's what I believe to be true. When I was young I dated a few men who used to drive big or fast cars & spend an appropriate
amount of money on me; only to find out, to my disappointment, later in the date why they flaunted what they could )

A new species of gecko that has recently been discovered in Darwin's northern suburbs is unusual because of the way it reproduces - females produce fertile eggs without males; although a few of the populations in South East Asia do have males, the females are more successful as reproducing all by themselves.

Thank goodness such is not the case with all species. How boring life would be without females needing males, at least for something.

A toxin from a sea snail from the Great Barrier Reef may revolutionise pain relief treatments.
University of Queensland researchers believe the marine creature Conus marmoreus may have the ability to target chronic pain without severe side effects.
Dr. Jenny Ekberg states that researchers have found the toxin used by the snail to hunt prey targets something called ‘voltage-gated sodium channels,’ and because it only targets this one and not other channels in the body, it means that you can get pain relief and you don't get all those nasty side effects caused by drugs like morphine and local anaesthetics.
Dr. Ekberg goes on to say that it could be a while before the treatment will be available at pharmacies.
"First of all, we need to learn to synthesise this toxin so we can get lots of it, and also, of course, before you can use it as a drug, there are a series of clinical trials and it takes many, many years before it's actually out on the market, but this looks really promising."
