A Moon That Won't Eclipse Saturn Or The Integrity Of Steven Spielberg

March 3rd 2007 22:12
SPACE NEWS: NEVER BEFORE SEEN PICTURES OF THE PLANET SATURN:
On October 15, 1997 the SpaceCraft “Cassini” was launched by NASA. Almost 10 years later it has reached the ringed planet Saturn and has returned some fantastic photographs. Click the link to be awed.
For further photographs and even videos, google NASA. Credit: NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute

VIEWS:
What can I say? Just fantastic!!! Don’’t miss this one.

NEWS:
Thousands of North Koreans living in Japan have held a demonstration in Tokyo’’s Hibiya Park
protesting discrimination by police, bullying of Korean schoolchildren and the closing of ferry services to the North that Tokyo shut after the nuclear test in October last year.
Chongryon, the Korean residents’ group said 7,000 people attended the demonstration while local media put the figure around 3,000. There are more than 500,000 Koreans in Japan, many of whom are descended from people brought to Japan as forced labor during the Japanese colonial era early last century.
Japan Nationalists, also known as Japanese imperialism or Japanese nationalist ideology, held a counter-protest; hundreds of Japanese police kept the two sides apart.
Some of the demonstrators carried placards or posters of North Korea’’s leader Kim Jong-Il.
Tokyo’s governor, Shintaro Ishihara, tried to get the protest banned but the courts rejected his request.
A further complication is the admitted abduction of Japanese Citizens by North Korea during the 1970s and 1980s.

VIEWS:
What a mess. Methinks that it might be a good move to allow those Koreans presently in Japan who favor North Korea’s regime be allowed to migrate to that country. Also, how can those North Koreans in Japan be considered at blame for North Korea’s nuclear and economic programs?

NEWS: Famed director par excellence Steven Spielberg unknowingly in possession of stolen Norman Rockwell painting:
Steven Spielberg's staff became aware of an FBI theft notice last week regarding artist Norman Rockwell’’s picture entitled “Russian Schoolroom” (estimated to be valued at $7,000,000 by the FBI) and realized it was in their employer's collection. Spielberg's office got in touch with the FBI immediately.
Spielberg bought the painting in 1989 through a legitimate dealer, the FBI said; Spielberg would certainly seem to be an unwitting, non-responsible player in the scenario. The painting was stolen in 1973 from an exhibition in Missouri. Rockwell died in 1978 at 84 years of age.

VIEWS:
Way to go Steven and staff - a credit to good behavior. Clearly, honesty is the best policy.

NEWS:
There will be a total eclipse of the moon Saturday, March 3, 2007 beginning at 2018 Greenwich Mean Time with the Moon totally in Earth’’s shadow between 2233 and 2358 GMT. The phenomena is caused when the earth gets directly between the Sun and the Moon which causes Earth’s shadow to fall onto the Moon.
Robin Scagell, from the Society for Popular Astronomy, hopes the eclipse will “be the best in years...If the clouds stay away, it will be fascinating to watch the Moon's graceful movement through the shadow of the Earth”
Spokesman for the United Kingdom’s Royal Astronomical Society advises that the moon will be totally safe to observe without protective filters - in fact, you will be receiving less light than during a normal full moon.
From the BBC

VIEWS:
No need to discuss this writer’s views - watch it yourself and there you have the view; except to say that some (considered as misinformed or uniformed by others) may view the darkening of the Moon as caused by something else than the physical presence of the Earth between the Sun and Moon. Be reassured, the event does not (I believe) portend any cataclysmic event - not to disregard the mystical and astrological views, which may certainly have validity. I, for one, do not know for sure. Magic does exist!
CLICHE OF THE DAY: “TIE THE KNOT”
Meaning: To get married;
Example: I understand you want a baby, but don't you think you should tie the knot first. In fact maybe you should get a girlfriend first.
Origin: There are some marriage ceremonies where the bride and groom’s wrists are actually tied together creating the symbolic bonding between man and wife.
JOKE OF THE DAY: “COLDWATER”
Frank went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Georgia.
After spending a great evening chatting the night away, Frank's grandfather prepared breakfast
of bacon, eggs and toast. However, Frank noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking,
"Are these plates clean?" His grandfather replied,
"They're as clean as cold water can get them. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!"

For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, Frank was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked,
"Are you sure these plates are clean?"

Without looking up the old man said, "I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!"

Later that afternoon, Frank was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass. Frank yelled and said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car."

Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted...

"COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN!!!!"

No offense meant to rural Georgia - please take none (just in fun, folks...)
MORE “MURPHY”LIKE LAWS:
A man is only a man, but a good bicycle is a ride;
If the effort that went in research on the female bosom had gone into our space program, we would now be running hot-dog stands on the moon;
Nothing motivates a man more than to see his boss putting in an honest day's work;
A computer makes as many mistakes in two seconds as 20 men working 20 years make;
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

AND FINALLY, THE QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"Half this game (baseball) is ninety percent mental." Philadelphia Phillies manager, Danny
Ozark

Hi Katy,

Thank you for stopping by, and the compliment.

But, I haven't earned it....My husband does the heavy lifting on todaysworld....it's a kind of collaboration. We used to share "views" in the earlier columns, but now it's mostly sharing ideas before the posting, and I do the actual entry of the post.

Bob does the writing and cares about giving readers a smile and a lift with a joke (very well, in my opinion, but, there is the remote possiblity I am biased here ).

Sharing a blog was something I asked Jasmine at Orble about before we started this blog, and she kindly indulged our experiment. It has been fun.

My ramblings are at pennysmart and anonymousfilmcritic.......

I've read and enjoyed your blog many times. Hope you stop by again.....

Best Regards,

Theresa
