War and Marriage

December 27th 2006 18:18

After the death of James Brown, where does his son live, how much is gasoline worth, well wishes to Castro?, and trust Iran...........

From Bob:

NEWS:

People were gathering leaking gasoline from a pipeline in Lagos, Nigeria when the ruptured gasoline pipeline burst into flames Tuesday morning killing more than 200 people and still counting.

VIEWS:

Our condolences to the families of those killed; I never thought of it before, but I guess free gasoline is a premium find just about anywhere in the world, but this a clear reminder as to just how dangerous gasoline can be. It’’s certainly not worth one’’s life.

From Theresa:
Maybe I’m thinking in cliche terms here, but maybe having that gasoline to sell or use for a trip to a doctor was a choice people had to make....

From Bob:

NEWS:

An Iraqi court of appeal spokesman, Raed Juhi, reported that the court rejected an appeal by Saddam Hussein and confirmed that he would be hanged. This, after the death sentence was imposed on November 5, 2006 for the 1982 killings of 148 Shias in the town Dujail. Saddam must be executed within 30 days under Iraqi law. As of Wednesday the sentence could be carried out ““at any time”” according to Arif Shaheen, appeals court judge. He added that there is no further appeal available to Saddam.

VIEWS:

This writer sees as a large downside the fact that Saddam will become a martyr in his supporters’’ eyes. What a mess!

NEWS:

Dr. Jose Luis Garcia Sobredo reported that Fidel Castro, 80, was recovering well and was in good spirits.
Dr Garcia from Spain, an expert on intestinal ailments, particularly cancer went to Havana in response to a request from the Cuban government. Mr. Castro is recuperating from the surgery he underwent in July to stop intestinal bleeding.

Dr. Garcia, upon his return to Spain, stated: "His physical activity is excellent, his intellectual activity intact, I'd say fantastic, he's recovering from his previous operation. He asks every day to return to work, but doctors advise him not to, to take it easy."

Castro has temporarily placed his younger brother, Raul, in charge of the government.

VIEWS:

Although not a fan of communism, this writer wishes Mr. Castro speedy and full recovery. Get well, Fidel.

From Theresa:
Bob! Do you know something about this man you haven’t told me?
Granted, I don’t know that much about Cuba, but there was that whole missile crisis thing. Yes, I know we did a lot, too. But, missiles were being delivered not that far away from Florida, nonetheless.

NEWS:

Egypt’’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’’s chastised Iran’’s president on Monday for claiming his state is ““a nuclear country.””
Iran has consistently denied it seeks to build nuclear weapons, saying it aims to use its nuclear technology only to produce electrical power; but has also made ambiguous statements to the contrary which have fostered fears about that country’’s nuclear ambitions.

Ahmadinejad’’s comments came in the wake of a U.N. Security Council resolution adopted Saturday, which imposed limited sanctions on Iran for its refusal to cease uranium enrichment (See previous story). Such enriched uranium can be used as fuel for nuclear reactors or as material for atomic weapons.

VIEWS:

I’’m not sure that I would trust Iran’’s intentions either. If, in fact, Iran has plans only for nuclear power, which is a legitimate use, why doesn’t Iran offer to allow U.N. presence to monitor such use.

NEWS:

The late soul singer James Brown’’s ‘‘widow’’ in addition to suffering the death of her loved one was shut out of the house she and Brown lived in until Brown’’s death . On Christmas Day she and the couple’’s son returned home to find that the front gate was locked and she was unable to get in.

According to Brown’’s attorney, Tomi Rae Hynie apparently was previously married to a Texas man in 2001 and failed to obtain a divorce before marrying Brown. Thus the lawyer says, even though she annulled the prior marriage before Brown’’s death, that since she did not remarry Brown, her marriage to Brown is null and void. The attorney says "I suppose it would mean she was, from time to time, a guest in Mr. Brown's home,"

Hynie argued that she has a legal right to live in the home with the couple's 5-year-old son."This is my home," Hynie told a reporter outside the house. "I don't have any money. I don't have anywhere to go."

VIEWS:

Merry Christmas and bah humbug. What a bad bit of news to go along with the death of her ‘‘companion’’ right at Christmastime. No slack and no heart whatsoever.

From Theresa:
I so agree with you. I’ve read subsequent reports of the attorney’s actions and statements. It sounds to me like the lawyer is playing judge, for personal enrichment.
If there are questions, get a quick court date (it can be done in such circumstances) and put together your brief and submit it to the Court. Then an unbiased (hopefully) neutral third party adjudicates.
Sounds like Mrs. Brown needs an excellent and quick attorney right now.

From Bob:
SO LONG AND THANKS FOR READING
